Best Food Trucks, Brisbane

Over the past few years, the number of food trucks has been growing rapidly throughout Australia. Now, many roam the streets of Brisbane appearing at different locations from day to day. My favourite thing about food trucks is their diversity. It is rare to find trucks in the same location serving similar food. I have tasted my way around many of Brisbane’s food trucks and want to share a handful of my favourites. Check out Brisbane Food Trucks to find out where these food trucks and others are popping up!

The Bun Mobile

One of the very first food trucks to launch in Brisbane and the first one I ever had the privilege of trying. Their specialty is handmade steamed buns (baos) loaded with a range of meats, vegetables, condiments and sauces.  There are three staples: beef, pork and chicken along with a daily special. My go-to is their classic pork bun which features tender twice-cooked pork belly, pickled cucumber, hoisin sauce and crispy batons of shallots ($10).

That BBQ Joint

One of my favourite Southern American BBQ venues is Getta Burger who also have their own food truck. Enter That BBQ Joint, which serves some of the best BBQ Rolls, Ribs and plates of BBQ around. I can’t resist the Mixed BBQ Plate ($13) which features smoky beef brisket and juicy pulled pork, split down the middle with potato and bacon salad to cut the richness. Trust me – this hits the spot.

Ña’ Meche Place

My favourite food truck, Ña’ Meche Place serves up authentic hand made Venezuelan empanadas which are packed with a variety of fillings. On high rotation is the shredded beef, black beans, plantain and feta empanada ($10) with a combination of their sauces on offer. The addition of plantain is a stroke of genius as it adds a touch of sweetness that compliments the beef, beans and feta perfectly. All enclosed in a hot crispy pastry, you’ll find yourself counting the days till next time.

The Bone Lorry

Another meat lover’s paradise, The Bone Lorry offers some of the best finger-licking meat dishes such as the Triple Cheese Beef Cheek Burger ($14) starring slow braised beef cheeks in a sticky liquor with a triple cheese sauce, bread and butter pickles, pink slaw and BBQ Mayo inside a soft brioche bun. Prepare to get messy.

Ruby The Little Red Ice Cream Van

Moving away from savoury food trucks, Ruby’s offers soft serve ice-creams with a variety of toppings. My favourite is the choc nut with a crunchy layering of hard set chocolate sauce coated with chopped nuts. So satisfying and perfect for a hot summer day.
